North Lake Announces Dallas College Legacy Award Finalists

Dallas College North Lake announced its finalists for the Dallas College Legacy Award.

Each recipient will earn a chance to be inducted into Dallas College Athletics Lifetime Legacy Lore. The Legacy Award honors former Dallas College student-athletes and coaches who distinguished themselves through exceptional athletic and academic performances at their respective campuses, and who have continued to excel in their professional and personal lives long after their playing days. These individuals represent the highest standards of leadership, excellence and impact – both within Dallas College and in the communities they serve.

Cody Roberson

An All-Metro Athletic Conference baseball player at North Lake in 1990 and 1991, Cody Roberson spent two years with the Blazers. He was an All-NJCAA Region V selection and named the Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore.

He signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves, spending one year with the organization in 1991. He was released after Spring Training in 1992, and later offered free agent contracts from the Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres and New York Yankees in the early summer of 1992 after the amateur and expansion drafts, but elected to join the United States Army. In 1998, Roberson returned to baseball to play for the semi-professional Fayetteville (N.C.) Diamonds, which was owned by the Fayetteville Crocs and Montreal Expos. Offered a contract, he turned it down to continue his service in the Army.

Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw coached the men's basketball team at Dallas College North Lake for 25 years.

McGraw led the Blazers to four National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Championships, doing so in 2006, 2008, 2017 and 2022 – his final year at North Lake. He also guided the Blazers to the national tournament in 2000 and 2007 when they finished fourth both seasons and in 2018 when they finished sixth.

He was named the NJCAA Division III National Coach of the Year in each of his four championship seasons. McGraw was inducted into the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2021.

Following his fourth national title with the Blazers, McGraw was named an assistant coach/special assistant to the head coach at Louisiana Tech University.
