Smith Collects Third DAC Defensive Player of Week Honor
IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake volleyball's Gabi Smith was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
A 6-foot-2 freshman middle blocker from Cleveland, Texas, Smith had 18 blocks, eight digs, three aces, 47 kills, and hit .373 in 15 sets as North Lake went 3-1 last week.
In a four-set win over Dallas College Mountain View, she had six blocks, including four solos, a season-best 15 kills, two digs, and hit .394. In a sweep of Dallas College Cedar Valley, Smith had six blocks, one a solo, put away 11 kills, with no errors in 23 swings for a .478 attack percentage, and added three digs and an ace. In a five-set loss to National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Seminole State College, she had four blocks, 14 kills and three errors in 36 attacks for a .306 hitting percentage, two digs and an ace. To finish the week, she had two blocks, seven kills and two errors in 15 attack opportunities for a .333 hitting percentage, an ace and a dig.
Smith ranks fourth among NJCAA Division III leaders in total blocks (97) and block assists (75).
North Lake (16-15, 5-3 DAC) hosts No. 11 Dallas College Brookhaven (14-11, 5-3) at 6 p.m. Monday. The Blazers, who are receiving votes in the national poll, finish the regular season at No. 10 Dallas College Richland (15-14, 5-3) at 6 p.m. Thursday.
