Mendez Voted DAC co-Libero of Year
DALLAS – Dallas College North Lake's Ava Mendez was named the Dallas Athletic Conference co-Libero of the Year.
Mendez and Hailey Pennison were First Team All-DAC selections. Katie Lloyd, Sandy Cortes and Kennedy Kovar were Second Team All-DAC choices.
A freshman libero, Mendez was second in the country in digs with 623. She also had 37 aces. She had a season-high 46 digs in a five-set win over Temple College.
Pennison, a sophomore outside hitter, led the Blazers with 312 kills, and had 411 digs, 26 blocks and 23 aces.
A sophomore setter, Lloyd had 570 assists, 361 digs, 16 blocks and 29 aces. She had a career-high 49 assists in a five-set win over Dallas College Mountain View in the South District quarterfinals.
A freshman middle blocker, Cortes had 119 kills, 62 blocks and 89 digs. She had a season-high 12 kills in a sweep of Dallas College Cedar Valley and a season-high six blocks in a four-set win over Henderson State University Junior Varsity.
A freshman outside hitter, Kovar had 186 kills, 304 digs, 24 blocks and 15 aces. She had a season-high 16 kills in a win over Dallas College Richland and 28 digs in the win over Temple.
