North Lake Begins League Play Wednesday at Home

Dallas College North Lake baseball team will open Dallas Athletic Conference play at home 12 p.m. Wednesday when Dallas College Cedar Valley visits Irving.

The Blazers and Suns will switch fields Friday and Saturday and play the final two games of the league-opening series in noon matinees at Cedar Valley.

North Lake, which picked up votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III preseason rankings, will enter conference play with a 5-9 overall record. The Blazers won four straight games last week, including a pair of one-run victories over NJCAA Division I State Fair Community College.

Noah Angus is the Blazers' leading hitter with a .417 batting average to go along with two doubles. Garrett Gregory is hitting .353 with two doubles and a team-best seven runs batted in. Carter Mach has a .343 average with a team-high 12 hits, a double and four RBI. Danny Berenthy and Carlos Pirela are both hitting .333, and Bladen Biner .313. Pirela and Biner each have one home run, as do Jack Davis and Jeremy Kennard. Pierla had the walk-off gamewinning RBI in Friday's 7-6 win over State Fair.

Hunter Greenwell is 3-0 on the mound. He has nine strikeouts in his five appearances this season. Jackson Jones is 1-0 with a 3.97 earned run average and 11 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. Jake Nicholson is 1-0 with nine strikeouts in four outings. Noe Saracay and Logan Lathrop each have one save. Saracay has a 1.08 ERA and eight strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work.

North Lake went 19-11 in conference play a year ago.
