No. 5 Blazers Reclaim 2nd Place in DAC with Series Win over No. 14 Richland
DALLAS – Dallas College North Lake's fifth-ranked baseball team moved back into second place in the Dallas Athletic Conference with a 12-1 win in seven innings over No. 14 Dallas College Richland Thursday.
The Blazers (19-17, 9-6 DAC) won the series after bouncing back from Game 1's 13-5 setback to beat the Thunderducks 9-1 in Game 2. Richland (16-18-1, 9-6) shares the same conference record as North Lake, with the Blazers holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.
North Lake starter Matthew Wendorf (2-1) went six innings, allowing no runs and no walks, while scattering five hits and striking out seven in the win.
Cyler Moore went 3 for 5 with a home run and two runs batted in. Oran Abel was 3 for 4, and drove in a run. Ivan Rodriguez went 2 for 5, and joined Moore and Abel by scoring two runs apiece. Aidan Huante doubled and had two RBI.
The Blazers won the second game Wednesday at home behind a five-run third inning and Grayson Brown's 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win. He gave up one hit and a walk, and struck out three to improve to 3-3 with a save this season.
Salvador De La Garza was 3 for 4 with two RBI and a walk. Abel went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI. Moore doubled, drove in three runs, and walked twice. Jesse Orozco had two hits and a walk in five plate appearances.
North Lake plays at National Junior College Athletic Association Division I eighth-ranked McLennan Community College 6 p.m. Monday before beginning the second half of conference schedule against Dallas College Cedar Valley noon Wednesday at Lancaster High School.
