North Lake Wins First Postseason Game Since 2014

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -- Dallas College North Lake women's soccer team beat Dallas College Cedar Valley 1-0 in overtime Friday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District quarterfinals at Dallas College Brookhaven.

It was North Lake's first postseason win since 2014.

The Blazers (2-8-5) will advance to the semifinals 5 p.m. Monday to meet host Dallas College Brookhaven (12-1-2).

Lexie Zapata scored the game's only goal in the 94th minute when she lofted a ball in from 40 yards out on an assist from Heidi Jovel. It was Zapata's first goal of the season.

North Lake outshot Cedar Valley 10-8, recording five shots in each half. The Suns (4-7-3) had two scoring chances in the first 20 minutes, and then opened up the second half with another, but Blazers goalkeeper Elise Buendia made a charging save to prevent the goal.

Buendia finished with three saves in her first collegiate shutout.

Cedar Valley's Olivia Reyna stopped five shots. 

It was North Lake's first overtime win since 2018 when the Blazers beat Cedar Valley in double overtime.
