No. 2 North Lake Goes 5-0 in First Round of Conference Action

Dallas College North Lake's second-ranked men's basketball team completed the first half of league play with a perfect 5-0 record.

The Blazers (18-6, 5-0 Dallas Athletic Conference) have a one-game lead over Dallas College Brookhaven (9-12, 4-1) at the top of the conference standings, entering the second half of league play 1 p.m. Saturday at Dallas College Mountain View.

No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, North Lake has won 14 in a row, dating back to Dec. 1. During that stretch, the Blazers have held all but one opponent to 70 points or less. In the lone exception, they beat Jacksonville College, 102-93, on Dec. 14. In the five DAC games, North Lake has not surrendered 70 points, No. 8 Dallas College Eastfield drawing the closest in a 77-69 Blazers' win Monday.

North Lake wrapped up the first round of DAC action with a 95-64 victory at Dallas College Cedar Valley Wednesday. Jakob Zenon scored 20 points, and had six rebounds and a block in the win over the Suns. Ryan Pondant had 18 points and nine boards, while going 10 of 11 from the free throw line. It was the second straight game he reached double figures during the week, and his 10 free throws are a season high.

Da'Ryan Williams had 13 points, nine rebounds and a block. Darion Jones finished with 13 points, a career-high seven assists, seven boards and two steals. Ring Deng had nine points, five rebounds and three assists. DeKyre Fuller scored eight points. Coby Farley had six points and a block, and Brandon Lawrence six points.

North Lake shot 60.7 percent from the field, and canned seven of eight triples. The Blazers were 20 of 25 from the free throw line. They held Cedar Valley to 3 of 14 from three-point range.

Conference play runs through Feb. 25 when the Blazers visit Eastfield.
