North Lake Wins 10th Straight over Brookhaven
IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake men's basketball team beat Dallas College Brookhaven 89-58 Wednesday night as Dallas Athletic Conference play resumed after a month hiatus.
North Lake (11-7, 3-1 DAC) extended its winning streak to 10 games over Brookhaven (7-12, 1-3). That streak spans back to the CoVID season when the Bears last beat the Blazers on Feb. 26, 2021 in Farmers Branch, Texas.
Zach Thompson scored 16 points, including 12 in the first half as North Lake, which is receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, raced out to a 29-point halftime lead to put the game on cruise control. Romiel Carter added 14 points for the Blazers, whose pressure defense caused the Bears fits in the first half. Ngozi Ofili scored nine of his 12 points in the opening half, giving North Lake three players who reached double figures.
Brookhaven's Jeremy Roman was the lone Brookhaven player in double figures as he finished with 10 points, eight coming in the first half. Marlon Linton scored all eight of his points in the second half.
Ja'Den Stiggers sank a pair of free throws with 6:44 to play in the first half as the Blazers built a 33-13 lead.
The Bears' offense found some rhythm in the second half, albeit the deep hole they needed to climb out of. Linton hit a pair of fadeway baseline jumpers. North Lake countered at the 10:59 mark when Ofili caught an entry pass down low from Stiggers, elevated and threw down a dunk to stretch the lead to 70-38. Carson Farnsley canned a corner 3-pointer at the 9:00 mark as Brookhaven went on a 7-2 run to make it 72-45. Trey Dancer scored for North Lake 45 seconds later to break up the Bears' run. Carter threw down a dunk with 4:33 to go, and the Blazers' lead climbed to 30.
Twelve North Lake players scored, including Bryce Rowell, who sank a free throw for his first point as a Blazer.
Brookhaven outscored North Lake 30-26 for a chunk of the second half, but the Blazers finished with a 13-7 surge to win going away.
North Lake plays at No. 2 Dallas College Richland (11-6, 4-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday to complete the first of three rounds of league play. A win over the Thunderducks could set up a three-way tie for first place in the DAC.
