Blazers Take Home 16 All-DAC Honors

DALLAS – Dallas College North Lake received four First Team All-Dallas Athletic Conference honors, while four others collected Second Team awards.

Jesse Orozco received three honorable mention recognitions, Brayden McCallum picked up two, while three others were voted to the same award for their respective positions by the Dallas Athletic Conference baseball coaches.

Cyler Moore, Salvador De La Garza, Grayson Brown and Jayden Honey were First Team All-DAC selections.

Ivan Rodriguez, Matthew Wendorf, Carson Shumate and Skyler Raley received Second Team honors.

Issac Garcia, Branden Kirtley and Makoy Stone joined Orozco and McCallum as honorable mention recipients.

A first baseman, outfielder and pitcher, Moore belted a school-record 14 home runs, including a single-game record three against Dallas College Cedar Valley, while hitting .335 with 59 runs batted in, 14 doubles and a triple. He was voted the DAC Hitter of the Week and National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Player of the Week, following his three-homer barrage. As a pitcher, he went 0-1 with a save, and struck out 19 batters in 14 innings.

De La Garza, a designated hitter who shared the First Team honor with Cedar Valley's Julio Cuotto, batted .341 with 13 doubles, three triples, three homers, 43 RBI and 27 stolen bases.

A two-time DAC Pitcher of the Week, Brown went 4-6 with one save, a 5.87 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 53.2 innings and 20 appearances. He was named the National Pitcher of the Week after a perfect performance when he tossed 5.1 innings without allowing a base runner over two games.

Honey went 3-2 with a 4.68 ERA and 40 strikeouts in eight starts and 15 appearances, while logging 42.1 innings on the mound. He was the final recipient of the league's Pitcher of the Week award.

A third baseman, Rodriguez hit .301 with five doubles, four triples, a homer, 30 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

Wendorf went 3-3 with 41 strikeouts and a 4.88 ERA in 11 starts and 15 appearances, covering 59 innings. It is the second straight year he's been voted a Second Team All-DAC performer.

Shumate was 1-2 with one save, a 5.63 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 32 innings over 22 appearances, including 21 as a reliever.

Raley had a 3-4 record with one save and a 5.25 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 18 appearances, all but two that were in relief, covering 36 innings. He was named the National Pitcher of the Week in mid-March.

Orozco collected honorable mention honors as a second baseman, shortstop and utility player after hitting .344 with 15 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 34 RBI and five stolen bases. He was the DAC Hitter of the Week to begin the season.

McCallum received his two honorable mention awards as a third baseman and outfielder. He batted .306 with five doubles, three homers, 28 RBI and two stolen bases.

An outfielder, Garcia hit .321 with 10 doubles, a triple, a home run, 26 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Kirtley, a right-handed pitcher, went 2-2 with a 5.30 ERA and 39 strikeouts in eight starts and 10 appearances over 35.2 innings before being shut down for the season in early April. He was the DAC Pitcher of the Week in mid-March.

A left-handed pitcher, Stone was 2-0 with a save in 17 relief appearances. He had a 6.39 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. He was named the DAC Pitcher of the Week the same week Raley collected the National Player of the Week.
